The grapes are from a single vineyard, Finca El Retiro at 1750 meters above sea level, and were harvested later in April, handpicked. Cold pre-fermented maceration for 6 days at 4 ºC was then followed by 25 days of alcoholic fermentation with a controlled temperature between 20 ºC and 23 ºC. Post-fermented maceration for 15 days. And then into new oak French barrels for 20 months. This wine has been made with a lot of care and attention!
Laborum Late Harvest Malbec
Type: Dessert Red
Region: Cafayate Valley, Salta, Argentina
Food: This moreish red can be drunk alone, instead of dessert, but also pairs well with rich berry flavours found in fruit cake. Other ideal matches include cheese cake with a blackberry topping and dark chocolate mousse. Can also replace port with a cheese board as salty cheeses love this sweeter wine.
Tasting Notes: Red with violet tones, bright and expressive. On the nose there are red and black mature fruits including plum, cherry and dry figs with a slight spicy aroma characteristic of the Malbec from Cafayate. Taste touches on vanilla, chocolate and caramel from oak ageing. It's a delicious sweet wine, still retaining its balanced acidity and has a long finish. Perfect to drink now but will mellow even further over the next 10 years.
