This unique Malbec dominated blend is from Las Pintadas, a district located northwest of the department of Tunuyán, which is crisscrossed by lots of small streams. The weather in this area can be harsh and cold but the conditions have proven to be excellent for the production of wines with expressive aromatic profiles and lots of personality. This wine is no exception.
It is 90% Malbec with 5% Sangiovese and the remaining 5% a mix of Syrah and Petit Verdot. All the grapes were fermented in small vessels of 600 or 800 litres; the wine was then aged for 9 months in second and third use French oak barrels.
El Philosopho Malbec

Region: Tunuyán, Mendoza
Food: Malbec red meaty classics are fine pairs with el philosopho but it also works with a range of other foods, including tomato based pasta, roasted salmon, game and lamb. For something different try it with a rich tagiatelle or lasagne.
Tasting Notes: Rich and dark, black cherry and cassis, with a little prune and raisin giving some ripeness. Floral at the same time, complex and juicy on the palate. Slightly less fruity and drier than other Malbecs, a long slightly syrup finish, very drinkable.
