Prodigo

Alessandro Speri, founder and owner of this young and dynamic Owners’ Circle bodega, comes from a long and noble winemaking tradition. In Italy, his family name has been synonymous with award-winning Amarone wines since founding in Valpolicella in 1876.

But committed to go one better, Alessandro left the family home and business in Italy in search of his ideal vineyard. He found it in ‘La Consulta’ – a place of exceptional beauty in the Uco Valley, 1,050 metres above sea level. Here the closeness of Andes provides both a stunning backdrop and the perfect place to grow grapes. Long hot days are followed by cool nights during summer – ideal conditions for maturation of grapes and wines of beautiful depth and complexity.

Alessandro names his wines ‘Prodigo,’ or Prodigal Son, in reference to his move so far from his family in Italy. According to Alessandro, it wasn’t easy but it was worth it. At Ruta 40 we’re just pleased Alessendro found his perfect place in the sun.
